MLS Season Kick Off: The Unmatched Fan Experience

What to eat, drink, and do this soccer season.

As the sport of soccer continues to grow exponentially in the United States, so does the excitement for the start of the MLS season. With gates opening just around the corner, fans are looking forward to cheering on their favorite teams. But, there’s so much more to the gameday experience than simply watching the action-packed game. Fans can enjoy fare from local favorites, elevated cuisine, and top-notch beverage programs that complement the on-field action. Check out our tips on can’t miss dishes, and get a peek behind the curtain to see what it takes to make all of this happen for the most passionate fans in sports.

Audi Field is bringing some serious flavor this season. The beef bulgogi bowl is inspired by Korean flavors and is a great option to enjoy in your seat as you watch the match. It features steamed rice, traditional bulgogi beef topped with kale and romaine slaw, a Korean salsa roja, Gochujang glaze, lime crema, cilantro, and fried onions for crunch.

Executive Chef Adam Carter has been with Levy for over 4 years, bringing fans innovative and delicious dishes. Although the players on the field definitely get their steps in, so does Chef Adam, he averages 17 miles worth of steps during every game.

BBVA Stadium wants fans to go big before they go home. A new dish this season, the 2-ft ropa vieja nachos, are inspired by Cuban cuisine. Fried corn tortilla chips are topped with braised beef, black bean relish, fresh cheeses, and sour cream. This is the perfect snack to share with friends at the game, and conveniently big enough for two to hold, so there’s no arguing about someone hogging the nachos.

Nachos have been a popular item at BBVA Stadium for some time, but in the 2019 season, fans enjoyed 16,000 orders of nachos which were topped with a grand total of 560 gallons of cheese.

Dignity Health Sports Park encourages fans to dive into dessert first with the S’mores Churro Dip. The churros are served with a chocolate and marshmallow dipping sauce, bringing some s’mores nostalgia into the park.

With help from COPIA, Dignity Health Sports Park and Levy were able to connect with the community and avoid food waste by donating over 2,000 meals in the 2019 season to local shelters.

MAPFRE Stadium has plant-based dishes for those fans looking for options without meat, like the Beyond Meat mini burgers. The chargrilled burgers are topped with lettuce, ripe tomatoes, cheddar cheese, and a chipotle lime aioli on a toasted brioche roll. Throughout the stadium, fans can enjoy a variety of other plant-based options as well.

Hot dogs are, of course, a popular gameday favorite. Columbus Crew SC fans really bring their appetite and enjoy over 20,000 hot dogs throughout the season.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium welcomes fans with house-made butter lemon pepper wings. House-seasoned flour drenches the wings and they’re slathered with real butter, lemon, and pepper, and served with delicious crinkle cut fries.

Guests visiting Nissan Stadium can crack open a Pitch Invasion Lager or Breakaway Session IPA, which are crafted exclusively by the brewmasters at Fat Bottom Brewery for Nashville SC fans. The brewmasters crafted their refreshing beers to have in-hand at the game, just don’t get too excited over a goal and spill.

Throughout the season, fans can get enjoy tastes from around the country with rotating menu items that are inspired by the visiting team and their city. Shrimp & Grits are in the works to welcome Atlanta FC.

Providence Park brings on new local partner, Killer Burger. Killer Burger has created a delicious “Striker” burger that is exclusive to Providence Park, and fans can’t wait to dig in. These Killer burgers are a neighborhood favorite in Portland.

Over 300 staff members make up the Park Provisions team. From chefs, to team members at concession stands, and community volunteers, it takes a village to make sure fans at the Park don’t go hungry or thirsty.

Speaking of neighborhood favorites, Zenner’s Hot Dogs and Sausages are available for fans, and they are made just a half-mile from the park!

Rio Tinto Stadium features Hawaiian flavors with their Hawaiian BBQ bowl. The bowl starts with white rice and then is topped with the guest’s choice of kalua pork or huli huli chicken as a protein and island macaroni salad, sesame seeds, and finished with huli huli sauce.

French fries are a fan favorite side, and most would expect ketchup or mustard to be the top condiment at the stadium, but it is actually fry sauce, a Utah staple.

No matter what team they’re rooting for, all soccer fans can find culturally or locally inspired dishes at parks across the country.
