Herbie’s On The Park, a Lively Gathering Social House, Opens in Downtown Saint Paul
This vibrant neighborhood destination will offer contemporary fare, an extensive cocktail program and nods to Minnesota’s favorite coach Herb Brooks
Saint Paul, Minn. (Sept. 6, 2016) – The wait is finally over - Herbie’s On The Park will open its doors on Saturday, September 24. This social house will offer a lively dining room with a welcoming bar to inspire camaraderie and a communal spirit. Tucked in the heart of Saint Paul, Herbie’s On The Park will gather foodies, friends, beverage aficionados, hockey fans and theater goers with its vibrant atmosphere and neighborly hospitality.
Herbie’s On The Park will pay homage to its namesake: Saint Paul’s native son, hockey legend, and mentor, Herb Brooks. Located in the historic Minnesota Club at 317 Washington Street, conveniently situated next to the Xcel Energy Center, Ordway Theater and Rice Park, Herbie’s On The Park will be the first restaurant and bar to open in the Minnesota Club building.
With local, seasoned restaurant experts general manager Aaron Johnson (formerly of Town Talk Diner and current co-owner of The Strip Club) and executive chef Tim Kovacs (formerly head chef at the Marquette Hotel and Basil’s Restaurant) at the helm, the 208-seat Herbie’s On The Park will offer guests upscale tavern fare with contemporary twists on American classics for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. The bar will celebrate and feature handcrafted cocktails, craft beers, an extensive wine list and a Moscow Mule menu - a nod to Herb Brooks’ favorite cocktail.
“People who live in and love Saint Paul appreciate the ritual of being together – to socialize, talk and share stories. We look forward to welcoming guests to this historic building, and creating a space where people of all ages can do just that - gather for happy hour or an amazing meal among friends,” said Johnson. “The warm hospitality will bring our guests back again and again. Herbie’s On The Park will be known as a gathering spot where locals and visitors will feel comfortable in team jerseys and jeans or suits and ties.”
Built in 1929, with a generous dining room of 3,300 square feet, the interior of Herbie’s On The Park will retain the historic air of the place where Saint Paul’s movers and shakers met – and will again, around the 40-seat marble bar. Original wood floors, fireplaces, grates and other details are highlighted throughout the restaurant and bar, showcasing the rich history of the era.
